On March 30th 2011, Vietnam Public Health Association (VPHA) in collaboration with Journal of the Front held the science forum namely “Strengthening the tobacco control in Vietnam” at the meeting-hall of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. Attending the forum were Mrs. Ha Thi Lien – Deputy Chairwoman of The Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front, delegates from Journal of the Front, VPHA, WHO, VINACOSH, International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, CDS, Hanoi School of Public Health, Vietnam Lawyers’ Association, members of National Assembly and representatives from the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s organizations.
Mrs. Ha Thi Lien – Deputy Chairwoman of The Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front open the forum For ten years, the tobacco control activities have been more concerned in Vietnam. Currently, the legal documents in Vietnam relating to tobacco control are disjointed and still not compiled into a unified law. In this forum, Vietnam Public Health Association and other agencies have provided with information, scientific evidences about the harmful effects of smoking, the effective smoke free models, and recommendations for the draft of tobacco control law.
The participants highly appreciated the cooperation between VPHA and the Journal of the Front in creating a useful forum for units and organization working in tobacco control areas in Vietnam to discuss and suggest measures for strengthening tobacco control in Vietnam, as well as the completion and adoption of the Tobacco control Law in the coming years.

On March 14th and 15th 2011, 17 officers from 6 provinces in the program of “Enhancing the implementation of no smoking policy through the network of Vietnam Public Health Association” participated in the 3rd training workshop “Managing the enforcement of no smoking policy program” at the National Assembly’s Guest House, No.2 Hoang Cau street. The training workshop held by Viet Nam Public Health Association aimed to provide and update the knowledge in the field of tobacco control in Vietnam, improve the project management capacity of the participants at the time to develop more appropriate measures for the current situation. The participants discussed, shared and directed the effective implementation of smoke-free environment as well as the tobacco control in provinces.
On March 15th - 16th 2011, Dong Thap PPHA in collaboration with Women's Union of Dong Thap province held 2 training courses on “Sex education for adolescents”. The learners of the 2 training courses were president or vice president of Women's Union of districts, towns, city in Dong Thap and communes, towns in Cao Lanh district and Thap Muoi district. Through two training sessions, the learners were provided with basic knowledge; the current facts of adolescent, youth reproductive health care in Dong Thap, contents are given priority in education and communication on adolescent reproductive health care. Thereby, the Women's Union staffs can integrate this subject flexibility into regular activities at association levels, strengthen adolescent reproductive health care and contribute to the improving of the quality of activities of Women’s Union at all levels. VPHA hold 2 training courses namely “Elderly PH members’ communication skills for Behavior Change” from 26th to 27th of March 2011 in Phuong Cong commune, Tien Hai district. Dr. Truong Quang Tien, a lecturer from Hanoi School of Public Health, gave lectures on: Behavior and steps to health behavior change; basic skills in health education communication and role play practice on group communication for the target group. After the training, the elderly members would apply the knowledge gained from the courses to provide communication for men in the local area on alcohol use at safe level according to the WHO recommendation.
