| Signing cooperative programs on elderly support during 2010-2015 period |

On April 15th , 2010, representing the Viet Nam Public Health Association (VPHA), Mr. Le Vu Anh - Standing Vice President, and Ms. Cu Thi Hau, Vice President, representating for the Vietnam Elderly Association have officially signed a cooperative program on the elderly in a five-year period between 2010 and 2015. At the ceremony, leaders of the two Associations stated that caring and promoting the role of elderly is one of their top priorities. Therefore, the cooperative program would involve activities such as advocating healthcare policies, promoting the role of Vietnamese elderly, monitoring and evaluating the implementation and enforcement of the Elder Lawwhich has just been issued in November 2009, proposing and initiatives on developing national and international programs for elderly support. Currently, Vietnam has no specific policies to promote elderly participation in socio-economic development process. Thus, the Associations will work together to develop and advocate for a comprehensivelegislative framework which is based on scientific evidences to support and promote the elderly’s role in community. In July of 2010, VPHA is supposed to launch a community-based intervention which will aim at promoting elderly’s social participation. And Vietnam Association of Elderly will coordinate its branch in Tien Hai, Thai Binh to work closely with Tien Hai Puclic Health Association in the intervention named "Promoting elderly’s participation in community development" which is being launched by VPHA. Findings and experiences from the intervention will be use for expanding the model to other local.. The cooperative program between VPHA and VAE , aims at contributing to the Elderl Law (which will take effect from 7th of January, 2010), improving the quality of life for Viet Nam elderly. |
