Strongly support for global “No Tobacco Day”

From May 22nd -27th, in the provinces of Thai Binh, Hai Duong, Ha Tinh, Hue, Dong Thap, Khanh Hoa, a meeting and parade was held to respond to the national no- smoking week and the world no- tobacco day with the theme "Tobacco and gender."

In each province, the meeting drew the participation of representatives of provincial/city leaders, Steering Committee of tobacco control, representatives of provincial departments and hundreds of students, Youth Union members.

In Ha Tinh, on delivering the opening, Mr. Nguyen Tuan - Deputy Director of Ha Tinh Health Service highlighted the harmful effects of smoking and passive smoking to health. He emphasized on the role of Youth Union members in the tobacco control work and health protection, especially stressing women’s health, a topic that is emphasized in WHO communications this year. In all provinces, the movement of implementing a smoke-free environment was launched to all the students. Youth Union of the agencies also signed a commitment to implementing smoke-free environment.

After the meetings, parades of the provinces with banners, paraded through the streets to spread the world no- tobacco day and the National no smoking week to local people.

This is an annual activity carried out by 5 PPHAs of Thai Binh, Hai Duong, Ha Tinh, Dong Thap, Khanh Hoa and Hue City Department of Health.
