On February 25, 2010, the Binh Dinh Provincial Public Health Association was established under Decision No. 378/QD-CTUBND by the People's Committee of Binh Dinh Province. The Binh Dinh PPHA is a socio-professional organization of organizations and individuals operating in public health in the province. Binh Dinh PPHA is under state management of the Binh Dinh Health Service. Currently, the Binh Dinh PPHA is carrying out activities for organizing its first congress, which is scheduled in early May 2010. Thus, the VPHA has so far developed its provincial association network in 11 provinces and cities throughout the country. On March 5th, 2010, representatives of the VPHA Executive Board and the PPHAs had a field trip in Binh Thanh commune, Thanh Binh district, Dong Thap province - where a dengue fever prevention model was successfully established. Local leaders, representatives, and volunteer members shared experience on implementing the program. Participants have remarked on the efficiency of the model as well as the active participation of the local community in advocacy, raising awareness of local people on dengue/petechial fever prevention. Up to now, this model has been maintained and promoted its effectiveness in preventing the disease. On March 2-5, in Sapa, VPHA’s staff participated in the Tobacco Control Policy Advocacy & Enforcement Training Workshop held by the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Vietnam Steering Committee on Smoking and Health (VINACOSH). Participants attending the workshop also included a representative of the Vietnam Ministry of Health, as well as a group of Vietnamese tobacco control nongovernmental organizations (including experts on tobacco control from organizations including WHO, Health Bridge, FHI, CDS, HSPH.. The participants provided information on tobacco use and impact worldwide, tobacco control in South East Asia and in Vietnam, and also discussed current tobacco control activities from VINACOSH partners in Vietnam. Additionally, experts from the ACS team have provided best practices and implementation skills of tobacco control and shared their experiences on successful strategies of tobacco control policy advocacy worldwide. Experts from NGOs and VINACOSH have contributed to the action plan; built a logistic model and overall objectives to tobacco control activities in Vietnam in the near future. On March 22nd -26th, in Jaipur (India), VPHA’s accountant, Ms Nguyen Mai Anh, participated in a training workshop on “Budget and Financial Management” organized by International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. During the workshop, participants provided important knowledge on budget planning and financial management, addressing subjects such as planning, implementation, budget control, making use of information from accounting records; internal control; financial monitoring and reporting; and issues relating to financial sustainability. This knowledge will help improve the professionalism of VPHA’s accountant and her budget and financial management skills. |
