From January 12-15 2010, VPHA and PPHA staff participated in a training workshop titled "HIV Counseling: Understanding Needs, developing Approaches" by Professor Robert William Blum, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Attendants were provided with theories of behavior change communication (BCC) models, motivational interviewing, and monitoring strategies, etc. The workshop was a component of the project “Strengthening Public Health Capacity for HIV Prevention and Care Activities” between Hanoi School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
On 29 Jan, 2010, Thai Binh PPHA conducted a training workshop on smoke-free schools in the education sector. Attendees included: leaders of the provincial Department of Education and Training, representatives of universities, colleges and high schools in Thai Binh, and a program official of VPHA. At the workshop, Thai Binh Provincial People Committee’s tobacco control action plan and the smoke free school related regulations of Ministry of Education and Training were introduced. The participants suggested how to develop the smoke-free environment in school for strengthening the enforcement of the smoke-free law in Thai Binh province. On January 29 in Thai Binh, VPHA collaborated with the Thai Binh PPHA to evaluate posters on the smoking ban to select the best poster for the VPHA’s tobacco control program. Participants from three sectors: health, education, transportation, including men, women, smokers and nonsmokers take part in the assessment. Posters were evaluated according to criteria including visual impact, color, clarity and appropriateness for target audiences. On February 2, 2010, the posters will go on to be evaluated in Hai Duong province. |
