| Training workshops on preventing Dioxin exposure through foods in Danang |

From June 29th to July 1st, in Da Nang, with Ford foundation funding support, VPHA collaborated with Da Nang PHA to hold two training two training workshops for trainers and communicators on preventing dioxin exposure through consuming contaminated foods by public health intervention measures. These training workshops focused on capacity building, enhancing the learners’ ability to educate and communicate appropriate knowledge and behavior on preventing dioxin exposure. Notably, the learners have the chance to practice their new skills by acting as trainer and communicator. After finishing the training workshop, thirty-trained communicators will have implemented the intervention program’s activities in households in four wards near Da Nang Airbase, including Hoa Khe, An Khe, Thanh Khe Tay and Chinh Gian. They will have distributed posters on preventive measures for reducing dioxin exposure for household kitchens and handed out leaflets to heads of households. Another important task for the communicators is providing knowledge on preventing dioxin exposure through foods and making presentations to some village meetings. Besides, fifteen-educated trainers will train for communicators in the following training workshop held by Da Nang’s PHA by November 2010. Five of fifteen trainers have been chosen to be supervisors who will regularly supervise the communicators’ activities during intervention process by 2011. The knowledge and experience provided at these workshops will help trainers and communicators to be confident in deploying the program’s activities, to protect and improve local people's health. |
